Marcel Young: Dr. Dre’s Son, Who Has Eight Half-Siblings from Different Women, and Whose Father Became a Dad at 16

The name Marcel Young may not ring a bell, but his father, Dr. Dre, will do so, as he is known even to people who aren’t rap fans. Marcel is one of many (and we say MANY) children of Dr. Dre.

The man doesn’t stop having children, starting at 16 years old! If there’s a male version of Taylor Swift, that will be it!

Back to the topic, in this guide, we’ll show you who Marcel Young is, along with his long list of siblings, who the mothers are, and how it all happened.

Note that there’s one adopted child that we won’t include in this one.

Marcel Young is Dr Dre’s 8th child and one of nine children that the famous rapper has fathered (in addition to an adopted one).

He was born on February 6, 1991, in Los Angeles, California, and has a blended family that includes six half-siblings from his father’s various relationships.

Growing up, Marcel experienced a tumultuous environment due to his parents’ volatile relationship, which was marked by Dr. Dre’s aggressive behavior and substance abuse. Eventually, he was raised by his mother after she left Dr. Dre.

Marcel attended high school locally and graduated in 2009. He later pursued higher education and earned a bachelor’s degree in 2013.

We’ll get back to Marcel in a moment, but for now, here’s a list of all Dr. Dre’s children and some information about their mothers (including Marcel himself):

Curtis Young (42 years old) was born to Cassandra Joy Greene on December 15, 1981. Her relationship with Dr Dre was brief; they were both very young when Curtis was born—Dre was just 16.

Due to their young age and the circumstances, Curtis was primarily raised by his mother. Dr. Dre did not meet Curtis until he was about 21, but they have developed a relationship.

LaTanya, Tyra, LaToya, and Ashley Young

We included these four in one section because they have the same mother, Lisa Johnson, as a delivery driver. Her relationship with Dr. Dre started when she was just 14 years old and he was 17.

Their children’s  birthdates are as follows:

  • Tyra Young: May 1982 (41 years)
  • LaToya Young: September 1984 (40 years)
  • Ashley Young: 1985 (39 years)

Fun facts: LaTanya told The Daily Mail that she has not seen her father in 18 years and has to go through his team when she needs to contact him.

Andre Young Jr.

Andre was born in August 1988 to Dr Dre and Jenita Porter. Jenita and Dre had a relationship during their late teens, but they broke up shortly after Andre Jr.’s birth. Tragically, Andre Young Jr. passed away in 2008 due to an overdose at the age of 20.

Marcel Young

Marcel was born Michel’le, who had a long-term relationship with Dr. Dre with only one son.

Their relationship was tumultuous; they were engaged but never married. Michel’le has been open about her experiences with Dre, detailing personal struggles and professional challenges.

Their story inspired the biopic Surviving Compton, which chronicles her rise as an artist and her tumultuous relationship with Dre. Michel’le has also spoken about her experiences as a single mother raising Marcel.

His mother also had another child, a daughter named Bailey Knight, fathered by none other than the notorious rap industry figure Suge Knight.

According to their mother, Marcel Young and his sister share a close and loving bond.

Nicole Young is the mother of Dr. Dre’s two youngest children: Truice Young (born December 15, 1997) and Truly Young (born August 9, 2001). The couple married in 1996 and enjoyed a long partnership over two decades before their recent divorce in 2020.

Throughout their marriage, Nicole supported Dre through various personal challenges, including health issues and family tragedies. You’d expect a somewhat “respectful” divorce between the two, but that wasn’t the case.

Their divorce proceedings became highly publicized and contentious, involving disputes over finances and allegations of domestic violence.

Marcel Young’s Career and Net Worth

While Marcel Young has not publicly shared extensive details about his career, he is known to be involved in the music industry, following in his famous parents’ footsteps.

He has reportedly worked on various music projects but has chosen to maintain a low profile compared to his father’s high-profile career.

Marcel Young’s net worth is estimated at around $100,000 as of 2024. This figure is significantly lower than that of his father, Dr. Dre, whose net worth exceeds $800 million, and his mother, Michel’le, with a net worth of approximately $250,000.

Despite being the son of a highly successful rapper and producer, Marcel has chosen to maintain a relatively low profile and has not publicly disclosed much about his career, with his only known appearance being in the Surviving Compton biopic. He doesn’t even appear to be on Instagram.

Marcel intends to continue building on his father’s legacy by creating projects that align with Dr. Dre’s values.

One notable project is establishing “The Dr. Dre School for Human Empowerment” in Compton, California, which will provide free education and training in music production and entrepreneurship.

It’s nice to see someone with such a high-profile father dedicate himself to doing something useful for others away from fame.

Final Words

“Hectic” is the word we’d use to describe Dr. Dre’s love life. He had children from women he wasn’t even married to, and it started when he was just 16 years old.

Marcel Young resulted from one of his relationships, but he chose to keep his head down and do some good away from all that fame heat. A breath of fresh air that is.
